Starting to look like our vision

 Hello everyone,

The bathroom is pretty complete, except for trim.

All of the electrical is installed in the bathroom and all of the ceiling lights are now installed.

Next up is the lower cabinet opposite the bathroom. That’s going to be our “kitchen”. The little fridge, a microwave, and a sink and countertop. The fridge is going to slide out on drawer slides, the microwave above it and then water storage for the sink behind that. Well, at least that’s the plan at the moment. Things have had a tendency to change as we start to assemble!! I’d like to get all that in place because there’s a lot of wiring in that part I’d like all connected before I start on all the electronics part. That way, as I’m putting it all together I can test it out as I go with no big flashes!!

Well, I think that’s all for now.

Still moving along

 Hello everyone,

Managed to get most of the ceiling installed, well, it’s all in there just not all the screws yet. I’d like them to be a little more in line with each, just so it looks a little nicer.

I spent about three days messing around trying to get the bathroom walls to get close to the ceiling, then, I showed the wife, and she wanted them to be 6” deeper. !!!! So, I spent all of today gluing pieces on with biscuits to extend the walls!

Not really a pain but, time consuming. Plus, I’m working around my middle son who’s in the process of laying down the kitchen floor finally. Hoping the bathroom in the truck and the kitchen floor will be done by Sunday! What a lovely thing that would be.

Finally received my last big part for the new electrical system in the truck. If the bathroom part is done by Sunday, I should be able to tackle that project next. Then at least, if we wanted to take a little jaunt with Diego, we could. I’m not giving the wife the heads up just yet!!

We’ll, I think that’s all for now.

More progress

 Hello everyone,

Things are moving along quite nicely. Well, not as nicely as my wife would like, but fine for me. Finally got the bed installed and all hooked down. Put the mattress in and cut it down to fit. Really just had to shave the rear two corners off.

I either need to paint or trim out the edges and clamp that wire down and that part is finished.

I also got the seat mounted in the back. Had to drop the gas tank down to be able to drill and tighten the bolts.

Had to have some help on that project, got one of the older boys to help me.

Had the grandson down for a few days and didn’t get much done but did have some fun with him.

Had to change plans for the ceiling material, because I couldn’t figure out a way to support the plywood and paneling in between the ribs on the ceiling. So, as my dad used to say we “ dropped back 10 yards and punted”. I bought some 6” pine boards that were already primed and brought them home and painted them a nice color that matches everything that the wife picked out.

The insulation came yesterday so this is going to start getting installed this week. It’s going to take a little time because I have to wire up the lights as I install the ceiling. We’ll see!

Well, I think that’s all for now.

Progress

 Hello everyone,

Trying to move along on Diego, amidst the cold weather. Have had fires going in the shop about everyday.

It’s been quite cold here the last few days, so this has been making it better to paint and glue things together. One of the things I wanted to do on this project was have it a more finished project. We figured that this is probably the last one we’d do. So I painted some of the pieces I wouldn’t be able to put paneling on under the bed and I also paneled some of the pieces you might see.

The wiring is all wrapped in plastic conduit, so it’s protected a little better. I picked up some tools to start mounting everything and a crimper and cutter for making up the battery cables.

Today I’m going to start installing the bed, should, hopefully, take me a couple of days. Plus, again, hopefully, get the seat mounted in this week. I finally got the electronics but, they sent me the wrong inverter. I’ll have to send it back before they’ll send me the correct one so that will probably take a couple of weeks.

After the seat is mounted in I think I can put in the ceiling and then start on the walls and cabinets.

So, I think that’s all for now.

Trying to be hard at it

 Hello everyone,

Happy New Year is in order! Many things to be thankful for amidst all the craziness of last year. Had a very quiet New Year’s Eve. Got up on the first and finished the driver's side running board.

Then we all pitched in and put up plastic walls around our outdoor living room, in hopes we can utilize it this winter!

Seems like it’ll work ok!

I’ve spent the last couple of days running wires in Diego (the new van’s name!) Should have most of the main wiring done this week, but I’m waiting for the batteries and all the electronic stuff. Fingers crossed I have it by the weekend.

I also received the brackets to mount the seat in the back but they line up perfectly over the gas tank! So, in order to install them I’m going to have to drop the tank.

Hopefully there’s a warmer day coming so I can do that job not laying in the snow!!

We’ll, I think that’s all for now, talk to you soon,
